Year 5: London Residential

In the Summer term, the Year 5 children take part in our cultural residential visit to London and have the opportunity to experience the best that the city has to offer.  This includes visits to some of the best museums, art galleries, the theatre, London eye and River cruises in addition to a city bus tour on our own private coach.

The visit takes place towards the middle of the Summer term and consists of 2 nights and 3 days.  The children stay right in the heart of the city only a stones throw away from the National History Museum.  The bedrooms that the children stay in are all along the same corridor of the hotel and staff rooms are located opposite to enable the children quick access should any needs arise.

During the days, the children will have time exploring the National History Museum, Science Museum, Tate Modern Art Gallery, take a cruise along the River Thames and enjoy a tour of the city with our very own guide to show us the most iconic places across the city including Buckingham Palace, the Shard, the Houses of Parliament and Tower Bridge.

During the tour the children will hop on and off the bus to get a more close up look at some of these aspects and will experience the 'changing of the guards' at Buckingham Palace.

In the evenings the fun doesn't stop with a jam packed full agenda to keep the children amused.  On one of the evenings the children will be whisked back to the hotel to prepare for a night out at a West End Theatre.  In the past the children have enjoyed shows such as the Lion King, Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Depending on the time of year and tickets available it is likely that the children will enjoy one of these three shows.  Each are all brilliant in their own rights and the children all thoroughly enjoy the experience.

As this visit takes place in London, the children have the opportunity to dress up smartly on one evening when we visit the theatre.  The rest of the time we ask that parents think about every eventuality as the weather in the UK is always changing.  The children will not require too much and need to be able to carry their own cases up the stairs, so keeping their packing to a minimum is very important.  The children will all come home with a Kit List, like the one to the side, closer to the visit taking place.

Meal time whilst on the visit is all catered for at the Hotel with a continental breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal all with children in mind.  For fussy eaters there is always bread and sandwich fillers on hand to provide an extra snack if the meal offered isn't something that your child will eat.  Children will need to bring a packed lunch on the first day and a water bottle that can be refilled for the duration of the visit.

More information about the visit will be shared at the Parents Meetings held in school.  If you are/were unable to attend the meetings, you will find access to these below.
