PUPIL PREMIUM AWARDS 2015: CONGRATULATIONS

In December 2014, Mrs Martin was contacted by Mr B Douglass from the Department for Education who informed her that Southfields Primary School had been successful in gaining a Pupil Premium Award.

Dear Mrs Martin,

I am emailing to congratulate you and your school on winning £1000 in the key stage 2 category of the Pupil Premium Awards 2015. The Minister for Schools, has written to you on this matter and the letter should be with you today or tomorrow. To find out more about the awards, go to www.pupilpremiumawards.co.uk. We will also be publicly announcing the list of qualifying schools today.

The £1000 prize will be paid automatically to your school following the conclusion of the awards in March 2015.

Yours sincerely,
Benjamin Douglass
Department for Education

Of course this was very exciting, but it also meant that Southfields then qualified to apply for further funding through the National Pupil Premium Awards.

After placing our bid we were lucky to be chosen and invited to attend the Awards Ceremony, held at the Drapers Hall in London, hosted by Nina Hussain and attended by the then Deputy Prime Minister Clegg. We were presented with our award ‘KS2 Regional Runner Up’ by David Laws the then Education Minister.  David Dunn the Pupil Premium Champion was also in attendance, giving the pre-dinner speech. In his speech Mr Dunn made it clear that we as a school should be sharing our ‘excellent practice’ by supporting schools, both locally and nationally, which as a National Leader of Education and Pupil Premium Reviewer, Mrs Martin and the school are thoroughly committed to.

After the event we were contacted by the Awards team and received this lovely email:

Dear Mrs Martin,

Thank you for attending the Pupil Premium Awards Ceremony, I hope you and your colleagues enjoyed the day. I would like to congratulate you, your staff and pupils on being a KS2 Regional Runner Up.  This is a fantastic achievement for all of you.  The Minister for Schools, David Laws, was very impressed by your excellent practice.

Well done to you and all your colleagues, your dedication and hard work is an inspiration to all. Officials in the Pupil Premium Team look forward to working with you in the future and learning more about your effective practice.

Nicola Edwards

What a great achievement for our school considering that only 25 schools nationally qualified and only 3 other schools regionally!
