Our Curriculum

Curriculum Map:

Here is our Year 6 curriculum map which shows what the children will be learning each term, including trips and visits.

Autumn Term:

Spring Term:

Summer Term:

Key Vocabulary:

Within each unit across the curriculum, pupils will be explicitly taught key vocabulary that supports their learning. All children are encouraged to use this vocabulary through stem sentences, choral rehearsal, discussion tasks and a wide range of opportunities that enables them to apply rich vocabulary in their independent work. Attached on this page is a variety of vocabulary resources used within our curriculum.

Year 6 trips:

Black Country Living Museum:

Year 6 visit the Black Country Living Museum as part of the History Unit 'The Victorians'. This trip allows pupils to travel back in time, immerse themselves into what life was like for children during the mid 1800s, study artefacts and learn how Britain has changed since then.

Intu University:

Year 6 attend Anglia Ruskin University in Peterborough as part of an Intu University project. They showcase a presentation they have worked together to create about World War Two using their learning from their History topic. This trip inspires pupils to achieve and understand what a university is alongside the opportunities it holds.

Bikeability:

Pupils have the opportunity to take part in a free cycle training programme so that they gain practical skills and understand how to cycle safely on today's roads.

Swimming:

Year 6 also attend regular swimming sessions at Stanground Academy during a term so that they have the opportunity to learn how to swim up to 25m as part of the National Curriculum requirement.

Caythorpe Residential Trip:

Pupils have the opportunity to attend a residential trip to Caythorpe where they take part in a variety of fun educational activities.
