Why become a governor?

Our governing board plays a vital role in shaping the future of Southfields Primary School. We provide strategic leadership and work together to ensure the best possible outcomes for every child. It's a rewarding way to contribute to your child's school and develop new skills along the way!

What does a governor do?

As a governor, you will:

  • Work alongside other governors to help our school thrive
  • Bring a valuable parental perspective to board discussions
  • Be committed to improving outcomes for all our children
  • Develop your interpersonal skills and learn something new

What we are looking for:

  • A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children
  • Good interpersonal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills

What's involved?

We make it as manageable as possible:

  • 6 evening meetings per year at 5:00pm
  • One full 'Governor in School Day' per year
  • Three monitoring visits (September, February, May)
  • At least one school assembly during the year
  • At least one educational visit during the year
  • Training opportunities to support you in the role
  • 4-year term of office
