Dear Parents and Guardians, 

Welcome to the Spring Term 2019! We hope you have all had a wonderful break over Christmas and have
made lots of wonderful family memories.
Firstly, we’d like to thank all of year 6 for their hard work over the Autumn term and, likewise, thank all parents for your continued support. We are pleased that ClassDojo is being used to keep communication between us open. We encourage you to continue to use this resource to share successes and ask any questions that you may have. Before we get stuck into the topics that we will be covering this term we thought we would give you a few reminders as a refresher.
House Keeping:
Please ensure children are in the full school uniform, including shoes not trainers. If there are any issues with this, please let us know.
Children must have their PE kit in school from Monday and take it home to wash on a Friday.
PE is on a Friday, but where possible we might have the opportunity to take part in additional PE sessions so need to be prepared at all times.
Blue book homework will be given out on Friday and will be expected to be back in on the following Thursday, completed to as high a standard as we would expect in school.
Additional grammar and mathematics homework will be given out weekly. Regular use of all the online provisions will be expected and monitored closely, in particular:
Our exciting topic for the Spring term is: I’m an Evacuee, Get Me Out of Here! “A siren sounds, a building crumbles, a spitfire zooms overhead. Take cover! It is 1939 and Britain is at war. Deep down in the Anderson shelters, learn why nations are fighting and
why child evacuees must make long journey away from their homes and families into unknown territories. Find out if children have a better life on the other side of the battlefield.”
We are looking forward to fully immersing ourselves in this topic, including a trip to Stibbington and through various of the foundation subjects:
Science: Light and Sight and Changing Circuits
Geography: Countries involved in the war
History: WW2
Design and Technology: Textiles and product design
Art: Propaganda posters
Computing: We are Project Managers
Religious Education: Stories of Faith - Judaism
PSHCE: Growth Mindset
Music: War songs, music for impact.
We look forward to an enjoyable and hardworking term.

Before sharing the topic for this term, I thought I would share a few ‘housekeeping’ reminders for the year:

School Uniform: 

We feel it is very important for children to be in full school uniform. Not only does it help them to ensure their focus is on their school work, it will prepare them for the strict requirements of secondary school.

PE Kit: 

Our class will be carrying out PE on Fridays, however there may be other opportunities throughout the week therefore we ask that the children get into the habit of bringing it in on a Monday morning and taking it home on a Friday to be cleaned. They will require both an indoor and outdoor kit.



In preparation for the increased homework requirements of secondary school and in preparation for their end of year SATs, we will be setting weekly English and Mathematics homework. Additional ‘blue book’ homework projects will also be set so that the children still have opportunity to express their creativity. 

Online resources are a fabulous way for your child to practise and master their skills at home. There are a range of online resources available but we highly recommend Your child has an individual log in for this website which tracks their personal answers. The questions are in the format of SAT style questions and the level of difficulty is automatically adapted to their individual performance. This website will undoubtedly help to prepare your child for the upcoming SATs.



A strong home-school partnership is so important to me. We both play an integral part in your child’s year 6 journey and I would love for us to communicate openly.

Class DoJo is the most effective means of communication between us and I urge you, if you have not already, to connect to this as soon as possible. I am also happy to meet face to face as and when required. I am sure you can appreciate that my schedule after school is very busy therefore I ask that these meetings be prearranged via Dojo Messenger or through the school office.
