Happy new year!


We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and have enjoyed your time off together.


We are excited for our topics this term and of course our residential and day trips too. This term we will we studying the following:


History – On the mend (hospitals and health)

Geography -  Continents and oceans and fieldwork.

Science – Animals and Humans – life cycles, food, exercise and hygiene

Art and Design – Digital art work.

Computing – Digital art work and presentations.

RE – Islam & Buddhism stories and Easter.

Music – Recorders.

PSHE – Relationships and wellbeing and keeping clean.

Languages – Italian


As well as these lovely topics, we will be reading on a range of different texts including fiction, non-fiction and poetry in our English and Guided Reading lessons. We are having a focus on George’s Marvellous Medicine. Lots of our writing will link into this story.


We have trips booked in as follows:

w/c 11.02.19 – Stibbington residential

27.02.19 – Peterborough Museum


Homework this term will be as follows:

Reading- daily with an adult and a signature and comment to show they have read with someone.

Times tables – daily

Spellings – daily

Diary – daily (we will begin the year completing these in school at the end of each day).

Maths homework – once a week linked to the learning they will have done in lessons.

Topic homework – once every two weeks. This homework can be creative, research based it can including drawings and writing. This is the children’s opportunity to demonstrate their best work.

To produce a fact file about any animal of your choice. This can be presented however you like.



Can you use your recycling at home to build a model of your choice. Write about what you have built and why?



Can you write 5 questions about life in the past that you would like to find out the answer to on our museum visit.



Can you record the food you eat and the exercise that you do over a week?



Can you invent a new instrument or piece of equipment that could be used by a doctor. Can you explain how it works?



Can you write a poem or a song to tell us about the 7 continents/5 oceans of the world?




This year our classes PE day is a Wednesday. We would advise that PE kits come into school on a Monday and then children will take them home on a Friday. Some weeks there may be the possibility for extra PE or fitness activities.
