Our Curriculum

Our curriculum provides children with opportunities to build on their prior knowledge and skills through a balance of practical experiences, purposeful activities, high-quality texts, discussion and direct teaching. As children progress through Year 1 and Year 2, we gradually increase expectations, enabling them to become more confident in applying their knowledge independently.
Through our curriculum, we aim to develop children who:
- Are confident and independent learners who take pride in their achievements.
- Read widely and develop a love of books, using reading to learn about themselves and the world around them.
- Communicate effectively, developing rich vocabulary and confidence in expressing their ideas.
- Write for a range of purposes and audiences, developing increasing control, creativity and accuracy.
- Think mathematically, developing secure understanding and applying their knowledge to solve problems.
- Are curious about the world, asking questions, investigating and developing their understanding of people, places, nature and the past.
- Develop creativity, using art, music, design and performance to express themselves.
- Understand how to stay healthy, safe and respectful, developing positive relationships and an understanding of their responsibilities.
- Show resilience, understanding that mistakes are an important part of learning.
- Work collaboratively, listening to others, sharing ideas and celebrating differences.
- Make connections, recognising that their learning is not limited to individual subjects.
We are committed to ensuring that all children, regardless of starting point or individual need, are supported to achieve their potential. Through responsive teaching, appropriate scaffolding, challenge and carefully planned provision, we enable children to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to become successful learners.
