Safeguarding

Here at Southfields we have 6 members of the welfare team who are also Child Protection trained Officers. 

The designated lead is Mrs L. Martin (Headteacher) and the Deputy designated lead is Mrs R Farooq-Ayub. 

The school SPOC (Single point of contact for Prevent is also Mrs Farooq-Ayub.

The Staff Team have also been trained in the following areas:  Safer Recruitment, WRAP, Prevent, SPOC, Supporting pupils and parents involved in Domestic Violence,  Supporting Children with Emotional and Behaviour Needs, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, positive handling, behaviour as communication.

Designated governors have been allocated who oversee procedure, record keeping and procedures in child protection  are Mr John Durance and Mrs Katie Judge.

The school is proud to have it's own independent trained counsellor who work with children and families for two days each week.  Where pupils complete a programme of independent counselling.

 In the event of a parent/guardian or carer wishing to contact the school regarding a welfare issue the team are available to book appointments with and can often work with parents immediately where parents or children need urgent support.  In addition to this the Designated Leader and Deputy will also support the team on request along with this the school also has a named governor for safeguarding  Mrs Judge or Mr John Durance who you can contact by writing a letter and placing it in a sealed envelope, marked Safeguarding Private and Confidential which should be handed to the school office who will ensure this is delivered as a matter of urgency to them.

We as a school have many leaflets and contacts if you need further assistance in any issues relating to safe guarding children.

We have appointed the welfare team to work closely with families to support the needs of children within the school and we host regular welfare drop in sessions half termly to meet with the school and wider professionals to support the care of the children in our school.  We also work closely with Health professionals and the School Nurse has a drop in times for parents to support them if they have any concerns they would like support with.

We have a number of documents that have been written to support the children within the school and part of the curriuclum will allow the pupils time to discuss their own wellbeing and safety, this is in timetabled sessions through the BASEAL aspect of the curriuclum as well as other wider opportunities please see curriculum for more details.  These documents include:
