Mrs Ferrara/Mr Aldous
Welcome to the Summer Term! We would like to welcome Mr Aldous to the Year 5 team. He will be working in our class for a day and half as well as with Year 6 for a day and a half. He has experience of working with children across the Primary and Secondary phase.
This term our overarching themes are ‘London’ and ‘Victoria Rules the Waves’.
We will be studying:
Topic – London and Victorians.
RE – Hinduism – Use of images and How they worship.
PSHCE – Relationships and Changes
Art/Design – Pop Art and Cams/Gears
P.E. - Swimming, Athletics, Striking and Fielding and Badminton
Music – London
Science – Changing states and Life cycles.
Computing – We are artists and We are architects
English – Particular focus on mystery and detective stories, newspapers and biographies. There will be many more writing opportunities through cross-curricular lessons.
Throughout this term we will have a trip to the Black Country Living Museum to support our learning of the Victorians as well as our residential to London this year. We will also be holding Reading Café sessions this half term to encourage reading for pleasure.
This term children will continue to receive daily spellings, times tables and reading. They will also need to complete their daily diary entries and weekly blue learning log homework. These will be sent home every Friday and children will have until the following Wednesday to bring them back to school. If homework is not completed by Wednesday, children will be expected to attend Mrs Peacocks homework club at lunchtime to be completed. Children can also choose to do their homework during this time if they’d prefer.
Each child in Year 5 should be Swimming in the second half term in our school training pool. A timetable for this will follow, but it will be either a Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
This term we will be gearing the children up ready for Year 6. Trying to become more independent learners, taking responsibility for their home learning and being ambassadors for the school.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Mrs Ferrara and Mr Aldous
