Planning Reading sessions

Reading and Writing sessions are planned using a combination of the recommended texts from The Power of reading, The Write Stuff and the 100 recommended reads for each phase across school.

The Power of Reading is a website that supports schools in raising engagement and attainment in reading and writing for all pupils.

The site recommends wide-ranging books that can be used with children from Foundation Stage to Year 8. The books have been specifically picked to challenge, inspire and motivate all children and are recommended for specific year groups.

The ‘Power Of Reading’ and 'The Write Stuff' really does encourage the children to write via reading and have a love of books and book talk - the schemes encourage the children to talk about a book, front cover, pictures and illustrations, and experiences reasons for reading and writing before you even read the words! The school's focus on oracy encourages role play, drama, and character development.

All year groups use texts recommended by The Power of reading, The Write Stuff and the 100 recommended reads within their Writing, Reading, enrichment and Reading Lighthouse sessions. The children have given us some very positive feedback about these books and have been enthralled by the texts used and activities which have been undertaken.
